Our General Committee Meetings 18th March 2022, 15th April 2022 and 20th May 2022 were postponed due to Covid 19 Pandemic.
However, 2022 has been a successful year for the Society.
The Foundation Meeting of Walpole Nornalup and District Historical Society Inc. was held in Pioneer Cottage, Walpole 12th March 1992. Much has been achieved over the past 30 years, by many very dedicated people – hours of research and compiling history of the area and we say a big thank you to them all.
Progress has been made in regard to the Walpole Museum. A Walpole Town Hall Proposed Site Plan for the Museum, that is, two Shannon Sheds back-to-back, have been drawn up. View, Walpole Town Hall Proposed Site Plan on display today at the AGM.
We have had a number of enquiries regarding local history which we have been able to forward on. Includes – ‘Skippy Rock’ Nornalup Inlet, Jesmond Dene Resort Nornalup, Allen Family History Walpole, Jack Rate Forestry Dept Walpole, Arthur and Molly Ross Nornalup, ‘Spiccy Log’ Conspicuous Beach story ‘Lights Beach Log’ Denmark, Area of MEHNIUP information requested. Harold updates the website regularly and it continues to be of great interest. Keep up to date with WNDHS – wndhs.org.au.
Varied items of historic interest continue to be donated to the Society including:
Monday 21st February 2022 committee members joined Dennis Gilpin his brother Robin and sister Ruth to view Group 138 School site Hazelvale and Mission House site Hazelvale. An interesting and enjoyable excursion.
Celebrating the history of original Group 116 settlers Thomas and Elizabeth Pascoe and their family, by erecting memorial plaques in their honour, and remembering Winifred Alice Pascoe (nee Clarke), Pascoe Road Bow Bridge.
hosted by Denmark Historical Society Denmark WA September 9th – 11th. On Saturday 10th Sept 2 pm – Out and About – Group Settlement Experience, was held at the Tingledale Hall. WNDHS provided displays of local history for this successful event.
Book sales over the past year have been pleasing. We are in the process of working on other titles and they will be available for sale soon.

Four issues per year, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring sent to members Walpolian also to the Royal Western Australian Historical Society in Perth, State Library in Perth and Denmark Historical Society. We receive History West from RWAHS monthly and Koorabup from Denmark Historical Society quarterly.
A requirement by Walpole Community Resource Centre. An updated Inventory of the Homestead contents was forwarded to Cherie Smith WCRC 6th July 2022.
Certificate of Insurance with Rainbow Coast Insurance Brokers, Albany. Renewal was 14th June 2022.
Library displays are ongoing; Society arranges displays of local historical interest for our community and visitors to enjoy.
Again our sincere thanks go to Helen and Ian Gallash who generously provide popular homemade Jams, Pickles and Chutneys, on sale at Walpole Community Resource Centre. We thank Walpole CRC for their continued assistance with sales.
With great sadness the Society farewells Foundation Member/Committee Member/Life Member and friend Elizabeth Gerner. Elizabeth passed away October 2022. A valued member who contributed so much to the Society over many years. She will be remembered.
I would like to thank our valued members for their ongoing support.
