With profound sadness and sympathy the Society records that our Life Member and friend Lee Hunter passed away peacefully on Tuesday 11 August at St John of God Hospital, Murdoch. We offer our heartfelt condolence to Steve and family.
Talented Artist and Chronicler
Lee was a great artist and an inspired reporter. Lee used these and her other skills and enthusiam to produce many Displays of History often seen in Walpole and district.
Lee's meticulous research and great visual capacity combined with a talent for spacial simplicity resulted in many people enjoying and appreciating her work and gaining through the research and skills Lee so generously shared.
This is example is one of several display boards Lee created on Pioneers of the Deep River.
She displayed the result of her research in many other boards which remain treaured Society acquisitions.
One day they will form part of a new History Museum in Walpole – one of Lee's dreams. Sadly she did not live to see this but her work will be part of it when it comes.
Life Member
Because of this generous and skilled contribution over many years, Lee was honoured with Life Membership of the Society at its Annual General Meeting on 9 April 2017.
It was a wonderful event and a well desrved honour. Life Membership is awarded to members with at least 10 years’ service who has made a worthy contribution to the Society.
Steve was at the meeting: the Society had been able to maintain the honour secret from Lee by inviting him as "Returning Officer".
Lee also prepared the greatly valued and often used Time Line of Events (Tap Here).
Lee was not only active in the Society but generally in the community.
Lee and Steve left Walpole for a new adventure in Yallingup at the end of last year. The Society's commmittee invited Lee and Steve to a lunch as a mark of our appreciation.
Once again it was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by us all and we are so grateful to have this recent and delightful memory.
